Dirigo – a four masted, steel hulled, barque that was sunk by UB23 when she was approximately 6miles SW of Eddystone Lighthouse. For many years she was just referred to as the tyre wreck, due to her cargo of WWI era solid rubber tyres. One thing about this wreck is evident, she’s big! She is broken up and open along her stern and mid sections, though you can see the huge stubs where her masts were. Apparently her bows stand up reasonably high and are worth investigating, however I didn’t get around to reaching that part.

At 74m you don’t get a lot of time on the bottom, at least with open circuit, and it was pitch black due to the lack of ambient light. However visibility was very good and extended beyond what my torch lit up (which was quite some way).
